Today we want to share what we have learned about holidays around the globe.

Jewish people throughout the world celebrate Hanukkah - During Hanukkah, Jewish children play a game called dreidel.

2.2 Kaleb

A dreidel is a four sided spinning top with a Hebrew letter on each side. If it falls over on the letter you chose, you might win a coin.

Slavery was a horrible time in American History. During slavery, many people from African countries lost their culture and traditions.

In the 1960s, a holiday was created to restore traditions from Africa. That holiday is called, “Kwanzaa”.

3.3 Ashton

Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26^th to January 1^st.

The 1st graders will share the 7 principles of Kwanzaa in this Kwanzaa song.

Children sometimes perform Posadas - little journeys from house to house that remind everyone of Mary & Joseph.

Mary’s tummy was big with baby Jesus. He was ready to be born into the world. But they were far from home. There was no room for them and they had to stay in a stable with the horses.

It is a time to reflect on the past year and to invite divine help for the new one.

People clean their houses and take long baths. Sometimes people share bowls of Udon noodles.

There is a singing competition and people all over the country watch it. Tonight, we have a special guest who just came from Japan. She will sing a famous song for us.
